Setting up network Switch for LAN

Okay, i purchased a Switch so that i can run a lan party of 8 people including my self. I need help on making sure the computers actually connect via the switch and not through my wireless so here is my problem.

I bought this switch

And i'm trying to set it up with several computers independent of internet so that we can lan over a couple of games. While testing this switch with my laptop, i was not able to connect via the switch, but instead connected via the wireless in my house. Can anyone tell me how i am to go about making sure that the computer always connect via the switch?

For example, while playing swat 4, i would start a Lan server and my laptop would show the ip of the Lan server being 192.168.1.xxx witch is my wireless. But the IP for the switch is 10.10.10.xxx. How do i make sure people will connect via my switch and not through my wireless router?

Thanks.

If you connect computers to the switch and nothing else, it won't work, you need a router/modem to provide DHCP. If you don't want to do that, you can setup everyones computers via a static IP, but that would be a pain if new people are always coming in with their PC's.

So I would say first, get a cheap router and connect it to the switch, and two, disable the wireless LAN or use encryption on the wireless.

BTW, there is no IP on a switch (except layer 3, but thats different). All a switch does is forward traffic.

You could probably use your current wireless router as too. You'd just need to plug it into the switch so then it would assign addresses to anything connected to the switch. Then just make sure you disable the wireless adapters on the computers connecting to the switch so they are forced to use their wired adapters.
