setting up tv as second monitor

specs of my pc are in my sig.
forgive if im totally talking crap here. Audio and video are not really my expertise or something.

I've been trying to hook up my tv (plain simple thing) through s-video cable. And those other 2 cables (you know the yellow, black and red one or something like that). Got all the cables/converters set up. it's like this:
Video: graphics card - s-video out - s-video converter - s-video cable - tv.
Audio: 3.5mm jack plug cable/converter - tv
The guy at the store told me this was the way to go.

Anyways i've been trying to set it up (windows vista ultimate x64). But i can't get it to detect the tv. Which i understand, but i can't get it to work at all. Even if i turn on nvidia rigorous tv display which is supposed to detect about anything. I've got recent drivers (1 week old).

The only thing that seems a bit odd to me is that the video converter only has 4 pins and the black flat pin. While my graphics card has about 8pins and the black flat pin. What are all these extra pins for?

The video card doesn't have an actual S-Video output, it's a special connector that can be used to convert to HDMI, Component, S-Video, Composite, etc. It sounds like everything is connected properly, but avoid using the nVidia program for now.

Go into the desktop settings and see if it shows two monitors that you can choose from. If it does, select the secondary monitor and change the resolution to 640x480, and see if it shows up. Don't forget to tune the TV to the correct input/channel.

thnx for the input :)
but it doesn't detect the second monitor.
setting it to extend my desktop there wouldn't work either.
