Lately ive noticed that when im just in windows and not a seperate full screen application the outer edges and corners of my monitor seem to be shaking or flickering. It gets kinda annoying and im wondering if this could be leading to worse problems

You may be experiencing electromagnetic interference from something like a speaker.

You may also have a bad power connection. Try it in a different outlet, and try it on a powerstrip.

Are you running a crt type or lcd monitor? Adjusting the refresh rate could see an improvement if the monitor itself isn't showing signs of wear. Often on older crt monitors that close in on the some 17,000 to 19,000hr. life span you will start seeing indications that's time it for a new one. Lcds have a much longer 45,000-50,000hrs. according to reviews. While lcds have an auto adjust you can try the manual vertical and horizontal holds to see if that helps. How old is the monitor?

That can work at times along with trying the video and system cache settings depending on the actual problem. If the fault is with the monitor itself a slight of adjustment on a crt(sounds like a crt) can also help at times if the cathode ray tube isn't on the way out. But checking the connections along with trying a few things to tweak the bios and display settings. refresh rate, etc. should work fast on a good monitor.
