Shared DVD Drive

Ok so I'm beginning to think this can't be done but I need some help.

I am sharing my CD/DVD+R drive on my Windows XP machine. I am trying to access this drive from my Vista machine. I want to be able to drag files from my Vista machine and burn them using the XP DVD drive.

Can this be done? I have sharing enabled and receive an error that the drive is not accessible and an incorrect function.

You won't be able to do that. Whatever you need burned just copy the file to your xp machine and burn it that way using a burning program.

Does your Vista computer not have a CD/DVD burner? I'm curious as to why your using your XP machine to burn stuff?

Well I upgraded my XP machine to Vista which had a burner up until last week and the thing can't write to discs but can read them.

So I have another machine which has XP networked and thought I could use that one instead of swapping them out. Its a piece of shit machine, mainly for storage but I can't even install the software for the drive either. Oh well.
