Shared Internet Connection from Win7 to Ubuntu 10.4

I am installing Ubuntu 10.4 on an old computer and have Windows 7 on my laptop. The desktop is across the house and two stories higher than the modem and I can't bring it closer.I know of a few ways to share internet between Windows Operating Systems. How could I do so between these two computers. My laptop has wifi, but the desktop is old and doesn't. It has USB 2.0, ethernet, and some things that won't affect this. The laptop has USB 2.0, USB 3.0, Ethernet, and things that won't affect this. Any ideas?

I would assume you could network them together (via Ethernet between them), and share the internet connection just like you would in windows. The setup would go the same on the laptop, as it is windows.
ill test this when I get home, and let you know if it works.
