Hello all I just got ADSL for home I got a Paradyne 6211 Modem/Router and I want to share the Internet connection and also network my computers , now the DSL works great on my main PC I ran the Paradyne to a Adaptek 8 Port switch (Port 1) and Port 2 to the Computer NIC and all is well I am hoping to get the Laptop home today do I just connect it to Port 3 set to DHCP and all will be OK ?

Now the Switch has no Uplink Port do I need a Cross cable between the DSL router/modem and the switch , and I will also like to share files between PC's (I will be adding another PC to this setup later.

-Just plug them in, and remove old information from network connections.

-Cross over between switch and router.

-To share files make all pcs in the same workgroup. And share a folder (right click and folder or drive)

Thank You

Can you explain : and remove old information from network connections. ?

And I think that the DSL router is auto sensing so I may not need a Cross Cable

Right click network neighborhood, select properties. When the window open right click the lan or high speed connection and select properties. under the tcp/ip setting make sure ther eis no IP or gateway specified. If ther eis just click the radio icon, which ghosts that option out.

A crossover cable is needed when you run a cable between any device and another device, when either of them is not a computer. Router to hub, router to switch, router to modem all require a cross over cable. ALSO a modem to PC I believe requires a cross over cable.
