Shells replacing Windows Explorer

Not really sure, still doing some research. I would imagine you'd have to restore your registry to defaults...which is definetly NOT like a normal "un-install." I'm still looking though.

Thank you very much for doing this. I would probably think that that would happen; it happened with a theme program called Style XP. But I could restore most of my stuff. I just want to make sure that I can get that far.

I'm going to be safe and say no, it not 100% un-doable. You will have to work in the registry, and that can be dangerous to the integrity of your system. Unless you install this shell and it has some kind of restore feature, i'd say don't edit it.

Some sites say if you change the value of "shell=explorer.exe" in your registry it can restore it if you are using another program. But I don't know if that's true, as it messes with your system.ini file which is a big player in loading your OS. It's actually all quite confusing for me lol. Anyone else have any input?

ok, now would it be smart to set up another account on my compy and test it? would that affect my main account?

If it's serious enough to prevent XP from loading it won't matter which account you set it on. However, if this is just a visual tweak I doubt it will cause this kind of damage.

If worst comes to worst, get in ther Recovery Console and follow this.

I used this method about 2 times to recover my system from a corrupt registry file preventing XP from loading properly. Works great.

well, it's a total shell. It says it "fixed the logout glitch" which sounds like it's not all too reliable. I'm not going to do it. Perhaps I'll try it on my "test compy" that's not all set up yet...you think something like this'll work on a piece-of-crap Windows 98SE 8 year old compy?

If it's compatible with Windows 9x then i don't see why not. Yes I definetly wouldn't risk it on my main rig if it's still a beta.

yeah, I'll try that when I finally go to Best Buy for an extention cable...I saved it because I'm such a technology lover...I'd hate to see technology on the curb.

Thanks for your help!

Well, what does it do? From the details.. it sounds good. But from the screenshot, it looks ... well, i dont know how to put it to not hurt your feelings.

Additionally, its a BETA... so you can expect faults and bugs.. It's not perfect yet. You can always restore all your default windows registry and icon files and all that sort.. its not too hard.

Most programs have it's own installer and should work fine.. Like for example, bricopacks from crystalxp.net replaces everything visual on your os, and when it uninstalls, it replaces everything back also. So, whatever it does, I think it should be able to undo what its done.
