Shopping for a new Laptop

I would like a little advice on buying a Laptop? Somewhere around say $700 to $850. I prefer to go with a dual core cpu and at least 2gigs of memory. Is there a big difference between AMD and Intel dual cores when it comes to laptop cpu's? I don't intend to play alot of games but would like some decent graphics . The monitor size either a 15.4 or 17 depending on your recommendations.Thanks for the help guys.
 
In terms of the price, I think a 15.4 inch screen is the best option. Generally, 15.4inchers are not as expensive. Intel cpu's at the moment are better for laptops. They offer better performance, price, and heat (lower) than amd. You should try hp or dell for that price range. I don't know if you can find dedicated graphics for $850. I'll keep you posted and I'll try to find a good model :)
 
The HP Pavilion dv6700t is a 15.4 inch model with an Intel Core 2 duo processor.

You can upgrade the processor the 2.0ghz, free upgrade to 2gb ram, upgrade the graphics to a dedicated 8400, get compatible wireless for the graphics, and get 160gigs for $838. It is not the best graphics card, but it will really be better than any integrated graphics card.

edit: Don't get the $870 prebuilt model however, that has integrated graphics.

HP and Dell are really what most people buy in this price range. However, a dell in this price range will not have a dedicated graphics card. I tried the Inspiron 1525, and it does not have the option of a dedicated one. The XPS, I think, is the base dedicated dell model. It, however, starts at $999, and still only has the same graphics card as the HP, but can have the 8600. So between dell and HP, I would take HP.

Acer is another option. Their build is not as good as most notebooks, but they have good pricing. An Acer Aspire from Newegg.com has 8400 dedicated graphics, 160gigs, 2gb's of ram, and best of all - an HD-DVD rom drive :P. The CPU is a little low, though.

Had to do a little digging but this one does not have shared memory to any hardware so you get your full amount of ram and dedicated memory to the GPU.

It is also in your price range. I have no experience on this personally so you will have to read through the reviews. It seems the biggest problem is the recovery partition, but if you read what the reviewers said they can order a recovery disk and blow away that partition to get the full HD space back, which is I guess what I would recommend if you pick it up.
