I am currently looking for a new laptop. I will be using it for research, essay writing, internet browsing, music, and media viewing. My first reaction was a MacBook air but I feel like there are many other laptops out there that are just as functional but not as pricey. I don't want to fall for the branding. I would like a laptop with a good camera, quick start up time and capable of multitasking without freezing. Thoughts?

Buy a Lenovo. That will last you and any decently configured one will let you surf and watch without issues. I've seen many with pretty good specs between $500
