Should I be able to tell the difference between the system in my sig and an amd turion 64 x2 2.0ghz 3gb ddr2 laptop? Because I can't...

It depends on what you are actually doing on each system, if it's normal web browsing, email, office programs then no. But if your gaming that actually uses processor power then the desktop will outperform the laptop by far because you have a better graphics card.

Opening programs depends mostly on the hard drive, not the cpu.
