Last year I built a new computer when NVIDIA dawned it's GeForce 4xx series. It has served me well most of it's lifetime, but with the onset of Battlefield 3 and a bunch of other new, more graphically advanced games I'm sensing the need for at the very minimum an upgrade. My current specs
i7 930 2.8 (Megahalems cooler with 2x120mm, can OC to 3.5+ comfortably)
GTX 470
3x2GB DDR3 (speed depends on CPU)
Some EVGA mobo (believe it's the x58 chipset)
Corsair 800D FULL HONKIN ASS TOWER
So..I'm wondering if I should build new or just drop something along the lines of a 590 in this b1tch.
Now........a lot of you are probably scratching your heads. Why should I build a brand new PC when I have a base that will play games reasonably well. 2 Considerations.
1. My dad wants to get back into gaming and he needs a computer. Not a cutting edge machine, but something that will run modern games on default settings smoothly. If I build a new computer, he will adopt my old one.
2. I'm a senior in high school. Next year I'm going to college. I don't want to take a full tower with me to college - I want something more compact. I'm thinking one of those more box like cases where the mobo sits flat, micro ATX, only 1 GPU ever, compact. I will already have my laptop (gaming lap tops just aren't my thing), so this will be in my dorm to play games.
I'd like to hear as many sides to this as possible, so all opinions are welcome!
Also, my name is Alex and I'm new here.
