Should I buy 8800gts now

Should I buy a 320mb 8800gts now from EVGA with their step up program? The reasoning is that I want one of their 8900gt's or 8950gx2 or gtx's, but I want a card to last me until then. Will all of these card be released within the 90 day step up limit?

Thanks.
Jeff

3 months... hmm, thats a hard one to tell, 3months would take you up until June... I would expect things like the 8900 series to be released around Q3 of 2007 if not later. There is no release date published or anything yet.

well that depends on how much you trust the inquirer? According to them its supposed to be released at the same time as the R600. Idk though, I'm the type of person that has to see something first hand to believe these kinds of stories but it does give a little hope...

Based on the fact you already have a 7900 GT I'd wait. No sense doing anything right now as most DX10 games are not coming out until September anyways.

sadly enough, the 7900gt is not keeping up with the latest games (rainbow six vegas, graw1). It aaaalmost keeps up, but the framerate makes me play bad and die. So i just need a small boost, like up to an 8800gts until the 8900s come out. Just need to know if they'll come out within 90 days.

I mean I guess you can do whatever you want, i don't think it is worth it, but hey, if you have some money to drop then go ahead. ( I'll take the 7900 too, haha I still am stuck with a 5600xt.)

All you need to do is overclock the 7900GT, my one is running at 620Mhz Core and 1.76Hz Ram. It can handle ANY game at the moment

His 7900GT is OC'd to 650 and 1800 it says in his sig.

Well as for RSV yes I was having issues with FPS with my X1900XT 512mb card so I got the 8800 GTS 640MB and it PWNS that game now. Heh.

Are you sure its the video card and not the kingston value ram? timings off maybe? bottlenecking somewhere else or maybe spyware? Even if not, lower the settings and wait. Why settle on something when something better is right around the corner?

No, my card is running great and up to specs. I've pulled 5384 in 3dmark06. It's just that on highest settings in games, I don't get enough frames/second. I think I'd be happy with at least 40+ all the time, but lower than that makes me play bad.
