Should I format my new HD

I just got Seagate FreeAgent Pro external hd and wanted to know if it's smart to format it again first before I start transfering over all my data.

Also, what allocation size whould I use (512b, 1kb, 2kb, or 4kb)? I am using it to store more larger files than small ones.

I've seen hard drives that come both pre-formatted and unformatted. Some require you to format them before use while others you can plug in and install your favorite OS right away. You said that yours is an External Hard Drive so I would assume that it's already pre-formatted, but it wouldn't hurt anything to go ahead and format it anyway.
