Should I Get A New Heatsink?

I have a Pentium 4 3.2ghz processor. I just have the stock heatsink on and my friend said I should get a new one (he said it was a piece of crap). How much better would a nice pure copper heatsink make my processor? Would it make it run faster or what? Please Respond!

Hey!

I do not think that it would make it run faster or anything. However a better heatsink will likely 1) improve temperature 2) could improve system stability 3) possibly extend the life of the CPU. The last two are rather negligible. The main problem is often the kind of fan that retail HSF have. They are often louder than the competition. However, I will leave that up to you to decide. I used to use my AMD retail heatsink. The cooler cooled well but I still bought a new HSF and that brought my temps down by 3 degrees celsisus. Nothing huge.

JAN :D

yeah i wouldnt worry about it, hes prolly just some fanboy, the stock HSF that come with the P4's are made to handle any heat that the CPU is capable of producing given that you are running at the original clock speed.... :P

Wanna bet? If thats a socket478 P4E-3.20 you'd best consider an aftermarket fan (or be prepared to deal with throttling)
