Should I get a new laptop?

I'm going to be a freshman in college this fall and a few people have told me to get a new laptop for school. I've had a pc for 4 years now and it still runs fine. Had to replace the battery once and it did crash after about a year of having it, but I've had no other problems. It was getting a little slow, but then I downloaded the new firefox (I'd been running a REALLY outdated internet explorer) and everything seems fine.

Should I wait to buy a new mac or just get it now? It seems wasteful to buy a new one when this one seems to be running fine..

Thanks!

It depends on what you'll be majoring in. I myself am entering my freshmen year at NJIT majoring in information technology and I don't know what software I'll have to run. I couldn't use my old D600 because it's unreliable, and my netbook probably wouldn't be able to handle everything so I got one of the new latitudes recommended by NJIT through the Dell partnership program.

In shot, it depends on your major. IF your an english major, chances are your laptop will suffice. But should you have a graphics/art/technology major, I'd get a new laptop.

it also depends on what college and your lifestyle if your the hang out at the dorms kind of guy keep the pc, if your a gotta be everywhere at the same time kind of guy get a laptop, OR the best option....ready? drumroll please....keep the pc AND buy a laptop:eek: its genius

then just keep the one you got, i see no need for another, (down the road, not too soon, you will wan to upgrade) but seriously keep it.

voyagerfan: I'm a double Japanese and history major..Doesnt sound very computer intensive, haha

Haha true. I think the one you have now should be perfectly fine. Although if you'd like something new you could always get yourself a netbook to carry around campus ;)

i still dont see whats so great about netbooks, to me theyr'e just tiny laptops, a regular size backpack will fit any 7 pound laptop....
