Should I get a Radeon 3870?

4850 is a lot faster than 3870
From my memory, 3870 perform similar with 9600GT

Brand new 9600GT is at AU$102 with lower energy comsumption...

As this product is from USA, warranty probably would not cover in au. I recommend you get a 9600GT from AU retailer.

OK, I'm definately going with the HD 3870.
All the 9600GT's where i am are $160+ which is almost double for the 3870

I have a 3870 and I love it.
It can play most new games with medium to high settings (Very high setting for old games :D) with decent frames

What about games like far cry 2? Crysis is meh, i'll only ever play it on high or medium. if i even get it.

why would you want to get a 3870 for that price when you can get a 4670 for 20 bucks less and 4850 like daisymtc choice for 20-40 bucks more?

I havent played far cry 2 but I can play GTA 4 with high to medium settings and get about 15-30 FPS (It's a little choppy but not that much)
And I can play Fallout 3 with all the settings maxed and get about 20-30 FPS (If I lower a couple of settings I can get 50 FPS easy)

Bacause i'm talking about AUD not USD

oh my apologies i just realize that you was from there lol and i was looking at the prices on ebay in Austria and i couldnt believe the prices lol it sucks man =/

but what is your price budget? and are you willing to upgrade in the future?

i dont have a 3870 so i cant really say anything but it sounds like computernoob1 likes it alot lol but its mostly up to you if you want the 3870 then get it but if money isnt an issue 30-70 bucks more i say go for something a bit bigger such as 4670-4850+ if your not gonna plan on upgrading again

I do like it a lot but I'd have to agree, if you are able to spend more get a better card.

I really can't spend any more, so i have bought the card. would the fact that the card has GDDR3 instead of GDDR4 affect performance? It is still 256-bit and 512mb though like the reference card.
Looks like i'm joining the Red Tide too.
