Should I get this PSU?

I can get an amazing deal on it (45 dollars after an MIR) and I know thermaltake makes decent stuff. It has every single connection i need as well as cables that are already coated black. Seems like a solid power supply to me.... Does anyone see any problems with it?

It should also be noted that I only ever plan on running one card. If I ever decide to xfire or SLI, it will be a time when I have enough money for a new psu as well.

After quick reading of few goggled reviews (Goggled Thermaltake Smart Series) it seems like an "OK" power supply.

Summary of the reviews that I have read are that it's a "good entry level power supply". Good benifits such as the SMART technology, Bronze efficient, decent asthetics.

A lot of reviews mentioned that for overclocking this series of psu didn't really perform as well as hoped. There were a lot of noise (power noise that is) that limited the overclock. A lot of reviews said that if it weren't for the $15 rebate, they would have chosen differently.

It's made by CWT which makes a lot of Corsair PSUs. Most builders says that CWT are questionable as to the parts they use. I'd go for Seasonic.

For that money, sure. 550watts doesnt offer alot of headroom for upgrading though. And that is a MUST when purchasing a power supply. You always have to go big if you want your moneys worth.

Even my 650watt PSU doesnt offer me alot of headroom. But when I bought it, I made sure it was more power than I needed so that it could last me 6+ years and 3 builds and it has done so without fail.

Today, I wouldnt really buy anything less than 650watts unless your just a casual PC user. But if you like hardware and toys, 550watt to me just wont be enough.

And also remember, the bigger PSU you buy over your demand, the longer the PSU will last and the more efficient it will be. You dont wanna buy the minimum you need and run the PSU at 80-90% capacity constantly. Which might be the case with my PSU by now, but Ill run it until it dies. If it dies.
