hey everyone, i have a dell xps gen 3.. the reason i do is because i got a great deal on it two years ago.

anyway.. i have 2gb 533 pc-4200 ram and if i want to upgrade apparantly i have to get 2gb and not 1gb..

will 4gb ram make THAT much of a difference? I'm a big gamer, but I am not sure what the extra 2gb would technically give me better.. boot time? load time? what? any advice is appreciated.

I've read here that overdoing it with ram could actually slow down your p.c. In my personal opinion, I think 2GB of ram should be sufficient. Are you currently noticing a lag in performance? If so, what's your processor speed, other specs?

Nope, probably not anyway. If ya wanna do something with ya rig i`d get higher frequency RAM maybe ? summin like 667mhz with lower latencies then ya probably notice a increase in performance. But make sure your mobo and CPU are compatible first. :)

2 GB is very high and good.....4 gig is way to much!!!! and yes, it will also slow down your perfomance...perhaps in the year 2010 (winter olympics in Canada!) we will need 4 gig....but for now its quite high!

When you guys are talking about slowing down system performace, are you talking about hardware(as in 1T, 2T and such) or what?

But I also agree with the rest of these guys, 2G should be plenty for most anything.

Oh ok, thanks :)

The only reason I asked is because I have heard a couple of people tell me in the past, "You can't ever have enough ram"

Well, basicly having more sticks of ram will slow it down, if you get bigger sticks to replace it shouldn't slow it down any.

I agree 2GB is plently, but if you want to upgrade you can replace your current ram with better ram.
