Should I return it?

I just bought a ibook g3. The one in my sig. Like my other laptops I have had in the past it got a stuck pixel 3 days after I got it. I also noticed this morning there is a hairline crack in the corner. I am guessing the notebook got warm when I was using it then cracked. Overall I really like the machine. Should I just not bother and keep it?

You have a point. I was just going to have them repair the screen, but I think I may ask for a replacement. I just e-mailed the seller. Wish me luck!

As far as warranties are concerned a crack is considered physical damage, not a hardware defect. You will need to find some way to prove that you didn't cause the crack. Was it shipped to you through a courier? Was the box damaged when you bought it? It may be a hard fight because "physical damage" voids warranty, and I'm sure the place you bought it from doesn't want to get stuck with it either.

And, that's just in general...I think Apple is even more strict than most.

If the seller offers to replace the screen and not the hairline crack should I keep it? Or should I return it and spend $75 on one that is not cracked?

I just found out that it is common for it to get a crack in that corner. So, pretty much if I ask for a replacement that is going to happen 5 minutes later anyway. Now, I am just going to ask for a new screen.

I'd probably return it. a crack shouldn't be lived with if its a brand new laptop. Although, I hate when I ship things off for repairs or returns...they always take so long to come back to me, but I'm impatient.

They will only accept it if there is more than 4 stuck or dead pixels. Should I just keep it for the price I got it for?

I would definitely return a computer or notebook with even what is classified as "cosmetic defects". I suggest in future purchases that you really look the thing over before handing over cash/credit card. Not possible via online, so your only option is physically going into stores.

If there's cracks and stuck pixels, what else is wrong? Hmmm....not to put a curse on you or anything, but will the hard drive crash? Will the processor fry, a common used-laptop complaint? Will there be claims of memory buffer errors because the previous owner didn't install the memory correctly? Will the backlight in the LCD go dead?

Be really careful when buying a used laptop, or anything used, and even new, in that case. It seems to be that people only take a long time with research and inspections when buying a car, but anything else--a house, a washing machine, a computer...they want to get it done and over with.
