Would you say this is good for a new Cpu,mobo and memory upgrade for my current main rig in sig?...OR do you YOU personnaly think it will be worth the upgrade?

Please answer poll.

Ive got the upgrade bug....:D

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz 9MB Cache Socket AM3 Retail Box Processor

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G Socket AM3 onboard DVI VGA HDMI 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

Total = £344.08

Money isnt a problem...but obviusly id like to keep it as low as possible,But im still courius to exactly how much faster that setup above will be than what i already have now.

I know with turbo boost, that cpu can go to 3.3Ghz automaticly?...id plan to OC manualy....to at least 3.7-3.8 when i get an aftermarket cooler.

Reading few review, it seems Phenom II x6 only get the benifit when 3D rendering. What is the main use of machine?

intel next gen 32nm coming Q1 next year, are you in hurry of upgrade at the moment?

At this point, if your buying a new board for the X6, I would go ahead and get a 890X/FX/850 board.

Theyre pricy though

Main use for my machine is gaming....mainly Bad Company 2,GTA IV etc.

My current setup plays them all very well,But the Q6600 is getting old now and my ram speed isnt exactly fast anymore :D

Yea, 1055T perform better in heavily multi-threaded application like 3d rendering, and x264 HD Video Encoding. And the difference is not that big between it and i5 750.

For gaming, i5 750 is still a king

EDIT: If you use your computer just for gaming, then I would suggest that you upgrade your video card to HD5870. This should make much bigger difference than upgrading to any other CPU

You are better off saving the money and rebuilding from scratch as your current rig already can most likely max games out. You realize that beyond a certain point of spec is moot with gaming because developers don't write code to take advantage of over clocking, or even multiple video cards because most consumers don't have such things in their PCs.

If your main use is gaming, I would suggest you hold out and save and then when the time comes build a new one, then retire your old PC to a file server and HTPC, which is what I do. Every time I build a new one, the guts of the old one get slapped into my file server/HTPC and the old parts from my HTPC get tossed in the recycle bin.

Thanks for that :):good:

Hmm,My rig can max everything ive tried,Crysis was on High settings with a mix of highest at 1680x1050 and played very well.

Ive noticed that some games are taking advantages of more cores,Just the other day i was playing BC2 and watching my core activities on my other screen and they were all busy doing something...so i just assumed that more cores = better performance,I know GTA IV loves quad cores but wether games actualy take advantage of more that 4 cores atm i dunno.

Just dont know what to do atm.

I priced up an I5 list...

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz Socket LGA1156 8MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172755

MSI P55-CD53 P55 Socket 1156 Gigabit Lan 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172655

and the same ram thats in the AMD build list above.

Came to more than the AMD build at £358

As for you mentioning upgrading my vid card to a 5850,Totaly not worth it atm....DX11 isnt a good enough reason to make me want to upgrade....when you look at DX10/DX11 side by side comparisons of Bad company 2 they look no diffrent....and DX11 requires more power so framefrates will be even lower than they was in DX10.

anyway the 4890 is a monster :P...il probably wait a bit and see what the Nvidia 460 prices are like but until then il stick with my 4890.

When you say it's totally not 'worth it' that ? £300 price tag of a new DX11 card, keep in mind, that you'll be upgrading your whole setup for equal or more that amount. Take your OP, you'll have less extra performance from that upgrade path than you would if you were to just get a new graphics card alone.

You could either wait untill its more worth it, do it now and throw some money away for the sake of just wanting newer hardware, or another alternative is to upgrade to the AMD/I5, sell your current stuff, throw that profit onto the price of a new graphics card, and uprade to a 5 series for say an extra £100.
That way you're safe from upgrading for at least a year & have well more than double the extra performance that you're looking for :)

The whole you need to overclock and run dual video cards to max games out is a myth and a marketing tool. Spend your money on whatever you like, it is your money but my rig, which is a Q9560 and a GTX 260 can max every game out I play and I get over 50fps on all games. It is not like I need anymore than that. Sure my benchmark scores are lower, but I don't need to brag online on how many 3D marks my rig can pull. I also hate Windows, so I only use it on one rig, so all of those benches are moot to me.

Thanks for that :):good:

Just wanted to throw in my two bits here. Flight Simulator X uses all four cores of my Phenom II Processor.

Just hold off, save your money, and rebuild as it will be a better investment. Then you can take your current rig and keep it as a back up computer, file server and HTPC. That is what I do. Then next time I upgrade, I will swap components from my current PC to my HTPC and rebuild my main PC with all newer parts.

I would hold what you have for now. It will do everything you need it to;) Wait and save up money, make a computer fund. Then this fall, when all the new games and hardware gets released for the holiday season...you'll find super deals. Then put together a machine!

Suppose you guys are right,It does do everything i need it to do..i just fancied a change and the new AMD processors prices are great, but then id need a new mobo + ram and thats when it gets expensive.

Il probably wait to see whats happening around Xmas time, see what the situations like then :)

With the spec you have, I don't see any reason to upgrade anything other than he RAM on the computer.

Id wait till the end of the year or early next year, parts will be a lot cheaper, more about, and your computer is still more than capable of running anything out there :)

upgrade, or upgrayedd, and yes that is 2 D's, for a double dose of pimpin'

Upgrade the ram? if i did it would probably be 1066Mhz like you have yourself,But there wouldnt be much diffrence going from 932Mhz to 1066 imo i probably wouldnt notice any speed increase.

I might just hold on to what i have now then, give it a good clean spring clean,I was thinking of changing my cpu cooler to a Corsair H50....at least if i get that now ican use it for my next buildas its LGA 775,AM3,1156,1366 ready.
