Should i use DisplayPort to VGA?

i am getting a gaming pc and i am not rich so i cant afford an expensive monitor. I already have a monitor, but it only connects to VGA. And ive heard that VGA is not the best and DP is good. My monitor is 1920 X 1080 monitor. Is VGA good or should i use displayport. I am kind of new to computers

What video card do you have? Usually there's a DVI to VGA adapter in the box.
