Should i use Vista?

I tried some earlish beta's of Vista and I was quite dissapointed with the performace. I'm a firm beleiver in performace over eye-candy, and that's not the route vista took. Once Vista runs as well as XP on an average PC(or it's required for software I use) I might consider the upgrade. Otherwise, I don't see a real reason to waste my time...

No, if you really really want to, consider it first. There are many things still wrong with it even though it is an RC2 release. Additionally, it'll expire sometime next year so you really don't have much to work with.

Besides the fact that alot of games and apps wont work with it, its also hard to find drivers for some hardware.

we have gotten preview copies of vista at work since beta 2, around march of last year. I had it on a laptop at work testing it out and it runs like crap, even the newest version does.

The OS needs lots of work and a general overhaul. I just hope MS fixes it sometime soon because I really want to see what it is capable of.

I would use it to test it out, but don't expect to run a stable system with it

You guys have issues. :) I mean that nicely.

The only reason my computer isn't running Vista GREAT is because of my only having 512MB of ram. Otherwise, it is flawless. I've had a couple instances where I found a bit of instability, but I think this is also compounded just by my lack of ram.

I haven't gamed on it, cause none of my games are here. I think its working pretty damn good for a RC.

PC eye, is that you?

No offence, but I think you're the one with the issues. Let's examine the OP...

do all games work on it?

And here comes you going "I think you guys have issues (you know. The ones that HAVE tried games on it. Yes. Those ones), because I run it flawlessly... but I haven't tried any games".

Next time read the thread. At least the OP.

hmm try getting it to work on a network is a pain in the ass as well. Not to mention the shoddy driver support out there.

Vista is a mess at the moment, end of discussion

It detected my LAN driver right away, as well as audio. What version did you use?

I dunno, I have RC1 installed (soon to be RC2), and it works quite well for me. It boots up much faster than my XP, it's just as snappy as XP, and it seems to run games fine. The games I am currently able to run are Need for Speed Underground, Condemned, FEAR(weird slowdown issue after a while), Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Demo, C&C Generals, Oblivion, Morrowind, San Andreas, Half Life 2, and The Sims 2. I tried some other games (COD2, Rise of nations.....) which didnt work, but that may have been because I didnt actually install them on Vista, I just ran the exe from my XP partition. All the games I confirmed to work are just running from my XP install (except Dark Messiah and the Sims 2). There are still a couple programs that dont work, but a majority of the programs out there do work. I personally can live with Vista just fine, and now It's XP that I can't stand. Don't know if you'd feel the same way, so you'll just have to try it. If you dont like it you can always get rid of it.

sorry, I meant trying to get it to do anything other than basics. I should retract that statement because most common home users won't be effected by it.

It should install just about any nic you toss at it, however will the nic run in full duplex mode? Will you have packet loss? wireless networks and drivers, have had issues right there.

Don't get me wrong, it runs on the laptop I have it on, but XP just runs better at the moment.
