Should It Be Fixed?

im not sure if you guys remember my post from about a week ago, but i just want to see if i've fixed the problem. so my girlfriend was talking to dell about the error/blue screen she got. (it was like IQRL_memory_less_than or something like that) and apparently they had her turn off her paging file, which is the virtual memory. and the problem still remained as well as the the low on virtual memory message popping up in the lower portion of her screen. and i was over her house last night and i took a first hand look, i ctrl+alt+del to look at the performance and the paging file graph was at the top, so i went to my comp>prop>advanced>performance>virtual mem and saw paging file off which was bizarre so i ended up changing that to the recomended 1.5x the amt of RAM, which in her case was 256mb. after that everything seemed to speed up. so im wondering if that was the problem all along.

but now i think we need to get her a new hard drive before her's dies cuz i could hear all this clicking and stuff coming from the computer. so i think im gonna have her back up what she needs, before tragedy strikes.

did i go about this right?

Fix sounds good if there are no more problems.
Bumping the memory up to 512 would be a big speed increase.

yep hes right it would be worth the upgrade depending on your processor, this dell seems to be giving you a bit of trouble is it under waranty?

idk if its under warranty....but idk if its fully solved. cuz she told me the screen popped up again. but this time it was while she was online which she had previously been able to do. it may be due to the fact that i didnt input the values correctly.....cuz i put the minimum as 2 mb and the max to the 1.5 times the ram. but when i looked on mine....minimum was 1.5x my ram and the max was double that....ill have her do that and if that doesn't work idk what to do next.

You may also look at apps running in the bacjground and close down all non esential apps.
Run AV, Adaware and spybot and defrag the HDD.

Ah helll, for low ram systems like that you might as well nail out 512MB for the pagefile if you can afford the diskspace

That sounds about right

Absolutely ... and kill/disable uneeded services via SC or services.msc :)
