Shuts Down at Idle

Hi,
I'm new here, so please bear with me, if need be.

I have a problem with my new PC. It is a custom-built, and if I have done something wrong, I can't figure out what. I think it is a software problem, but at this point I wouldn't swear to anything. The PC works fine except when at idle.

If I am actively doing something, I can go for hours without a problem. If I am running a scan, or for some other reason am not at the keyboard for a long period, it is almost certain that the PC will crash and shut down. Microsoft says it is a not-specifiable driver issue. I have manually gone through all the drivers in the Device Manager list and updated, where possible.

I have used various online driver scans which drivers are all up to date I don't have a clue where to go from here. The problems with my other PC (Running Vista Ultimate) are more frequent, but not so mystifying. Can anyone assist?

System:
OS: XP-Pro
CPU: 2.4 Quad-Core
RAM: 4 GB
Video: Nvidia 8800 GTX

NOTE: As I was typing this, and while running a scan on the PC in question, it crashed after about 25 minutes of inactivity (meaning no input from me).
