Shuts off... after about a minute

Nice informative video... If the V8 wasn't such a pain to remove, I'd consider trying to reapply some thermal paste some different methods and seeing if I get better temps. Oh well, 70*C during Prime95 at 3.33GHz isn't too bad I guess :P

I wonder how AS5 compares to AS3.

Makes me wonder if I should use the TIM that came with
my Noctua instead of AS5.

As5 is slightly less viscous than 3. I'd use as5 over bundled thermal paste though as that is usually ceramic or silicone.

70c is pretty high especially for an aftermarket cooler. I'd consider reapplying it or something, your temps shouldn't be above 60 or so at that clockspeed.

I reapplied it after taking the plastic off... now the mount actually goes all the way, and it's tight... reading 32 degrees celsius temperatures...

THANKS GUYS

Now that the problem's solved I don't feel as bad stealing the thread :P

Even while running Prime95 with 8 threads? Under normal usage it stays in the 40*C range, and is definitely cooler than it was when using the stock cooler. Regardless, it's stable and 70*C isn't outragous. Maybe if the V8 wasn't such a pain I'd consider reapplying the paste, but it's more than I really care to deal with :P

Prime95 never broke 60c @3.43Ghz with my Noctua, but oddly, I idle at just below 40c.

I only wondered because I heard the Noctua TIM was decent.

Well, my computer works!! A bit better than I thought, actually, I got it to hit 4Ghz for half an hour before I became uncomfortable due to temps... so I just put it back to 3.2GHz. This was my second overclock, but my first one doesn't really count, because I wasn just trying to burn a CPU on an Age of Beige computer and it hit a whopping 1.9Ghz, but is 4GHz good for the Phenom II 955?

Yes, even while running Prime95 with 8 threads. To put it into perspective most people running a CM V8 have higher clocks with pretty lower temps.

You're ignoring me... I got 4GHz...
At what kinda temps?

And jsut because you hit 4Ghz doesnt mean its stable. You would want to run linx to check stability:

Warning- If you are uncomfortable with your cooling do not run linx. It can heat a cpu much higher than prime95 as it does not stop to check for errors. I have seen temperatures 10-20c higher than prime95 on some systems, even higher if it is stock or sub par cooling.

As an overclocker, I use EasyTune6, came w/ my motherboard, so it's completely compatible, and it reads the correct temps.

1. You should be overclocking from bios, not software
2. Im talking load temperatures.... Prime95 or Linx put your cpu at 100% so you can check load temps.
3. For temperature you should be using everest or similar anyhow.

Oh. Then we should talk about how to overclock through Yahoo Messenger... maybe I don't understand how to do it the right way.

What's wrong with software?? According to bomber it's "crap", but I don't understand what's bad.
1. You have to re "overclock" every time you restart computer.
2. The voltage increase and clock increase if it does start when your computer starts can freeze windows.

Could name other reasons aswell...

Only time software is good for ocing is benching under dice/ln2/lhe.
