Hi,
Built a new system using hard drive from my old system.
Had XP on old system, which does not recognize new MB in my new computer which I built myself -
Ok, so I bought and XP disc
At first before putting in new XP, built computer was trying to load off the XP OS on the HD, but could not cause diff MB
Loaded the new XP CD into the machine &went into BIOS and told the new computer to boot first off the cd/dvd which worked.
XP was loading and did acknowledge another XP was there
It asked me for a repair, and I said no
XP continued loading and now has asked me to choose one of the following options
Format the partition using the NTFS file system (quick)
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Leave the current file system intact ( No changes)
I am a newbie, not sure what NTFS is, or that I would want it
Basically I want this new XP to overwrite everything and install itself.
If I choose Leave the current file system intact ( No changes) will this leave the old XP?!, if so, that is not good.
I am not sure if this is a usual question of XP when it is loading or not - or is it asking this 3rd option because I have an unusable XP already on the HD?
I don't want to do anything fancy like be partitioning diff areas of the HD, just want a simple install.
So my question is, which of the 3 choices above do I want?
Question is hanging on the computer until I tell it what to do - so waiting to hear from you all!
Thanks!
Matt
