Simple question from a noob...

I have a 80GB EIDE HD with an 8MB cache @ 7200RPM- it's brand new. I bought it for my "old" machine when I thought the original HD was bad. It turns out that my machine just took a crap and died and the HD had nothing to do with it. Now I'm stuck using a PII that I bought in 1999 until I build my new box in August.

Anywhooo... my question is; will the new HD work with the new AM2 Mobos or do I need to buy a SATA HD? A lot has changed since I last had my hand in the box, and I know frame rates have nothing to do with HD's, so I'm trying to save as much money as possible on the new build.

I tried looking this up but most people don't say anything about SATA or EIDE (perhaps that's how far behind the times I am) with the new mobo's. I see SATA support listed on their specs, but does that mean they only support SATA or will my "old" EIDE work?

Your old IDE harddrive will work just as long as your motherboard has PATA or IDE hookups on your motherboard.
 
Yes, any Mb you purchase should accept plain EIDE, or ATA/133 as they are sometimes called. If in doubt...just look at the manufacture's website for the MB you are loooking at. The specs should mention both SATA and IDE or ATA/133; after all, most DVD's are EIDE, and the MBs need to support those;)
