Simple question - XP

I have an HP Mini that I can't for the life of me seem to fix. If I were to fresh install Windows XP can I use the product key on the laptop to activate; even though its already been used with the XP on it?

I figured it may since it's the same laptop, but not sure..

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

yes. You can reuse the key, but it can only be used on 1 install at a time. When you reinstall, it will delete the last install, leaving it in use only once.

I am just fine with deleting the last install. I've already backed up all the documents I want. Now just need to get my hands on an external cd drive as the netbook doesn't have one.

*I know XP torrents are illegal and I'm not trying to discuss illegal downloading*

But to obtain a new copy of XP don't you either need to buy and order it from Microsoft or torrent it?

It's am OEM license so chances are you will have to ring microsoft and re-activate. Just explain that you're reinstalling it for one reason or another on the same machine and they'll do it without a fuss.

Alright great, thanks for the input. Do you know if they will supply me with a download or have to send me a new copy in the mail?

Whats wrong with the mini? I just got done fixing one the other day to where it wouldn't boot up and it was asking for the install cd. Ended up booting to an XP cd to get into recovery console and did the fixmbr and fixboot commands and it booted right up afterwards.
