Simple question

I have never overclocked a computer before and I just wanted to besure that the http://www.computerforum.com/16346-overclocking-101-needs-updating.html is still relativly usefull.

I see it says needs updating so I wasn't sure if it was different now. If is does need updating, is there another guide somewhere that would be usefull for me to check out? I know there is the good ol' Google, but I'd rather it be recommended and not take a chance on someone who was just tinkering and managed to do it but go there the wrong way, if that makes sense lol.

Depends more on what you have now. Most OCing these days is just multiplier overclocking. If you highlighted your specs we could show you where to start.

The guide from 2005 highlights a lot of socket A, 939, 478 or 775 components which had a large bus portion to the OC.

Fantastic, thank you. Does the same go for ram? my current ram came with an OEM pc, its only I believe 1600 DDR3, maybe even 1333. I am tapped out as far as cash, not sure how long so I am hopefull that I can overclock it a bit. I am very new to overclocking.

I just purchased a i5-4690k to go with a brand new Asus z97-Pro

Overclocking your RAM isn't going to give you noticeable performance gains most likely. Just set it at 1600MHz and be done with it. As for the CPU the guide that Geoff linked looks solid.
