Sims 2 Problems

I'm getting really frustrated with The Sims 2. I got it for Christmas, and when I tried to install it, It would get to a certain point and then an error message would come up. It couldn't read the disk, so I figured it was a bad disk and took it back to Best Buy. The replacement I got did the same thing. I've been on a lot of forums and I've tried doing a lot of stuff, but I'm thinking that it may be my CD drive can't spin the disk fast enough, evn though it's a 40x CD-RW drive. Is that possible? I'm confused about this whole thing, help!

You might have a malfunctioning Cd Drive. It does not have anything to do with the disk not being able to spin fast enough. The read/write lens in the CD-RW might be dirty, or another part of the drive might be causing the problem.

If all else fails, a new CD-RW drive will not bankrupt you... but lets see if we can narrow down the problem.

Are you having problems running any other games, software, music etc.. from your CD-RW drive?

Nope

I've never had a problem writing or reading any other disks, until this one. I just cleaned it with one of those lense cleaning things for computers but it didnt seem to help. I'm not opposed to buying a new drive, I need a DVD drive anyway, so I may end up doing that, but I'd like to play the game sometime soon, ya know?

Well if this is the only disk that is causing a problem then I doubt it is the drive itself, and it would not be wise to buy a new drive.

The best way to help you is to know exactly what the error says when you try to install Sim 2.

If you can, try re-installing the software and when the error comes up tell us exactly what it says.

It is also a good idea to close every application when installing new software.. along with disabling or closing whatever is in the taskbar and disabling the screen saver.

Ok what make and model of optical drive do you have?
I have an ACER 16x10x40 CD-RW drive. It's pretty old though, I've had it at least 4 or 5 years.
