Hi,
I'm looking at getting a laptop, mainly to do internet browsing, essay typing, and a little bit of gaming,

yes I know laptop's arn't the best for games

anyways,

Would a 3.0ghz processor be comparable speed wise to a 1.6ghz Duo Core when it comes down to games?

if not, which is the stronger of the two,

and what ratio could a person more or less consider to know what dual/duo/x2 speed is comparable to various single core speeds?

Dual core does NOT equal twice the speed. Running applications that only support a single core, you're typically slower running duel core/duel processors. This is assuming they are the same core/processor.

Now for today's standards, processors have simply become more effeiciant, which is why a 1.6 can beat say a P4 3.2GHz...
