Does anyone have a SIP account on a mobile phone that they don't have connected to a carrier

Is there such thing as getting a SIP account for free

Are there monthly fees associated with getting a SIP account if it can't be bought for free

What are the best SIP account companies and does it really include a different phone number that can be used over WiFi

How is this different from Google Voice and getting a separate phone number for G. Voice  and then using said G. Voice number over WiFi when data is not available  If Google Voice uses data to make phone calls and send SMS and MMS messages, then it seems that G. Voice is just another SIP account, right?

It sounds like you don't really know what SIP is. It's just a protocol, but you'll still have to have a provider side to tie it into the PSTN.

Some cheap places that offer SIP trunks are like http://flowroute.com . For a DID you're looking at around a dollar per month and the rates to most places are something like $0.009/min.

The difference between that and GVoice is that you have to have a data connection to the SIP server to register as. A GVoice abstraction phone number would ring your phone through the PSTN if it were associated, instead.

I think I'll just Wikipedia it or something. Lotta terminology there you mentioned that I have no clue about.
