skipping??

i didnt really know where to put this so i guestemated.

my problem is that when im playing games and such the sound and video keep skipping with no effect to the frame rate. it skips when im just listening to music, playing games(oblivion, dawn of war 2, and others). sometimes it will run good then it will just start moving and stopping like a bad dvd.

any help would be great.

I am not sure my sound does this since I use DVI for video and mobo for sound. My 5870 frame rates will drop to 35 on some sections of at least one track of Need For Speed Shift when I am in a heavy slide/ turn. It did not do this for the 2 hours I had my partially defective at re-start 5970 card. In my case this is just the limit of the card, maybe yours?

i dont know because it also did this while i was using a 4550 while i was saving for the 5870. but the sound will skip when im just listening to music and nothing else. and when im playing a game it will skip every 2 seconds or so and the lowest the fps ive seen go is around 30 which is still ok.

Did you update to the newest drivers online? It is 10.something at the amd website. Maybe this will help?

I'd click uninstall and restart the computer, then let it download the driver. It's definitely a driver issue. Often enough doing a clean install of it removes the issue.

Any overclocking on anything? Your build looks good and I see the cooler, have you tested your CPU and GPU temps? I ran a 5870 on an i5 with no problems on 9.12 so this should not be a problem.

If you have an overclock can you reset your bios and retry?
