I don't know the socket that it uses, but if I findout can i just buy a new processor of the same type? I'm pretty sure it's socket 478. I want to at least get a HT processor.

go to overclocking 101 and u gonna see the link for cpuz go there n download and it will tell u everything about your comp

You should make sure your motherboard supports HT, because many older socket 478 motherboard don't.

You're probably right. I'll probably have to get a new motherboard or just leave this computer alone.

Heres ur manual..anyone know if intel chipset 850 or 850e support ht?

Well heres the procs u can get

Intel® Pentium® 4 microprocessor

1.50, 1.60, 1.80, 1.90, 2.00, 2.20, or 2.40 GHz (400 MHz); or

2.26, 2.40, 2.53, 2.66, or 2.80 GHz (533 MHz) <---dunno if ht but an upgrade from ur 2.4 to a 2.8 with a jump in the fsb would work nicely, and it would be pretty cheap too.

EDIT: Heres ur best upgrade http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116215
