Slave HD?

I have an old hard drive from a broken computer. I want to access the files from the old HD. I tried putting it as a Slave drive in a new computer but it didn't work. I couldn't figure out how to view the files on the slave drive. Is putting the old HD as a slave the only way that I can get to those files? If so, do you have any ideas on what I may have done wrong?

is your BIOS set to autodetect or do you need to tell it that a drive is installed?

I'm not sure. when i boot up the comp with the slave drive attached, It checks all the drives. It detects the main HD, the cd-rom drive, but when it gets to the slave drive, it gets stuck and does not go on...???

try going into the BIOS and adjusting the drive configuration settings

I went into the Bios, but I'm not really sure how to reconfigure the drive settings. What exactly am I trying to do in the Bios?

enable a secon ide, it will be in the same window as the listing for the primary hd.
