Slave to Master IDE HD

Hey,

I built this computer a few months ago, but didn't realise that a drive could be a slave or master. So i just installed the HD and i have now realised it is installed as a slave HD. So i have a few questions :)

It is the only drive i have, and am wondering if i change it to a master will i still have all my files?

Will it format the whole drive and i lose everything?

Also the way to change the drive to master is by the jumpers, but is there anything else i need to do?

And finally is there any point to change it to the master?

Thanks for your time.

Just change it, it wont hurt the files and yes it should be master just in case you add another drive.

Ok, i took the cover off had a look at my HD and now turns out its a sata 4 HD. So sorry guys i should of looked before instead of just assuming.
The reason im concerned is that on start up when the hardware is detected i always have to press f1 to continue start up as the computer says "warning no IDE master HD detected".

So how can i get rid of this message and have a smooth start up?

thanks alot :)

Go into your bios and disable your ide options as this should stop message being displayed
