Sleep Issues

I am running vista ultimate 32 bit and am having a bit of issue maybe someone can jump in and give me some advice, I would like to put my computer in automatic sleep but am running into an issue, i can put the computer into and back from sleep mode fine, but the issue is that is doesn't seem like the computer is shutting anything down as with other PC's all lights and disk drives would go to sleep and wake upon resume, but this is giving me an issue and leaving the pc on.
Originally I could not get the computer to sleep at all, so i changed the bios to use S1 as opposed to S3 for sleep, could that be in the issue?
when in s3 or auto, the computer will go to sleep for a fraction of a second and then come back online? this damn vista is nothing but problems
please help!

Try switching back to S1, what happens? Make sure that your mouse is not moving either. Laser mice are extremely sensitive. The more DPI, the worse.

try not putting it into sleep at all...
shutting down pretty much every device there is is better for the device.
i haven't encountered a single computer where you don't need to be a computer wizz to make sleep function correctly 9 out of 10 it simply doesn't work.

my advice is shut it down. is better anyways for the pc. and i can't imagine waiting for your pc to start up for 30 seconds is so bad...

Yea, I'm in S1, when i try to put the computer in s3 it wont go to sleep, it'll shut down for a second and then start up with a few drivers not working till a restart which frusturating in s1 it works fine, what upsets me is i have no option to keep the lan on so i have to wait till the network is found every time the computer wakes up. which is not a big deal - what is a big deal is that all the fans keep running which makes me think the sleep mode is not doing it's job, its just shutting down the hard drive temporarily when it should be putting all the power to sleep to conserve energy.

The issue is with my mouse, Windows disables s3 sleep mode when a usb perhiperal is installed, all I had to do was disable wake from usb mouse and that took care of that.
My only issue now is when coming back from sleep my audio drivers do not work. grrrrrrrrrrr I think that dude was right, 9/10 times sleep mode is not going to work regardless of how hard you try.
