i am having problems getting my head round the sli theory is it fact or fiction and could it ever possibly work
i have an msi mb with 2 pcie slots but at different bandwidths now when i installed 2 x sparkle nvidia geforce gtx 550ti sli 3gb cards
with the original drivers disc that came with them all was fine however they would fail to update no matter what you did
even a techpower gpuz test showed that both cards were fine but something was holding them back and it is the mb pcie slots as in order for the sli concept to work my theory would suggest that 2 x 2.0 = 4.0 with a bandwidth of 16 x 2 = 32 so how can reducing to x 8 bandwidth when 2 cards are inserted would surely mean that 2 cards is less than 1 this does not make sense or logic as 2 processors doing the same job work twice as fast thus giving 3-4 times better performance
novatech suggested that i sell both the sli cards and invest in a higher spec single card as they didnt think much to the concept either and all nvidia support can say is forums forums and more forums as they dont seem to know either does anyone have any suggestions as my 2 sli cards are now retired and sunning it on a lonely desolate bookshelf robjlee64
