SLI & Dual Monitors

I am going to be getting 2 8800GT's in SLI.

I was wondering whether I sould put one monitor for each card or both on one card.

I will not be gaming in span mode if that makes any difference.

Which will give me better performance or is there no difference.

You cannot do dual-display if your graphics card are in SLI mode. More info

wow really? i did not know that. it's ironic one card can do dual monitor, but two cards can't

Two cards can do four if not in SLI mode. In practice, any mix of graphics card can produce a array of monitors. It's just SLI is used to optimize cards to run one display only.

if you went the ATI route, crossfireX allows multi-display, but he's right, SLI is only for one monitor :) its a shame

Thats a shame, makes a bt of sense since SLI basicly Turns the graphics cards into 1 bigger 1. O and does SLI make a HUGE! differnce if its turned on???

Well it doesn't double performance, but it does improve performance quite a bit. The only problem is SLI is expensive for the performance gained.

Hogwash. At very high resolutions and maximum graphics settings an SLI setup will stomp all over a single card. With TFTs getting bigger and cheaper, and the significant gain in performance, it's well worth it.
