SLI or non-SLI motherboard

I am looking at building my own computer and have been doing a lot of research. For the most part I have decided what I want. I am still undecided on the motherboard. I have been on other forums and some say that I shouldn't get SLI so I can save money but some others say SLI boards have higher quality chipsets. Is it true that SLI boards have higher quality chipsets? Or is it just personal opinion? Is it worth the extra money to have SLI? I would like to have SLI because I may use it in the future, but I most likely will not. But I would feel better if I knew that option was there if I ever do decide to use it.

Here is the motherboard I was looking at:

Say I decided to get a non-SLI board, which would you recommend?

Don't bother with SLI, it's rarely worth it. I got an SLI motherboard only because the non-SLI one didn't have Firewire and there was about a $20 difference in the two...

Lets say you have a 8800 GTX ($600!) and would like to buy another one for SLI. By the time you have enough money for another 8800, 8900 GTX or some other single card is out that is better than two 8800s.

I don't see how a single card would be better than 2 cards. I mean if you have two 8800GTX's that is 1500mb:eek: Even if the newer card is 1000mb, 1500 is better than 1000.

Ahh, good point! But, memory usage doesn't move as fast as processor usage;)

1. The amount of video memory is only one factor in video performance
2. You don't get 1500MB anyway - the same information has to be stored in both video cards for SLI to work, you still only have 768

So if you have two 8800GTX's in SLI, you still only have 768mb of memory? What are the advantages of SLI then?
