SLI or not?

I'm still new to this SLI thing and just wondering about what would be better for a new build, two GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3s or a single GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3?

I personally wouldn't recommend SLI, and this is coming from someone who just got into it, and isn't liking it.

But it could just be me.. I'm having problems my older card, and it works on and off, and I think NVIDIA is having problems or something, so I'm looking into ATI, but again, this could all just be me.

Just don't spend a lot, since nothing is future proof.

Thats what Mr. Gamer did, but its failing on him bigtime, so hopefully that doesnt happen to the op when he does it.

However, if I were to go with two cards, id use ATI. I hear crossfire scales really well and has a lot of other points that are better than cards in sli. That or a 4870x2. Mmmm...

If you have some type of hate towards ati, or 'loyalty' with nvidia, then get the 8800. Its a great card.

or you could get the 9800GT which is the exact same card as the 8800GT except a "newer version" pretty much. That's what I did :)

but be careful because both the 88 and 9800GT use the G92 chip which run VERY HOT...so I would invest in a aftermarket cooler unless the stock one does well.
