SLI question

When you run SLI with two cards it's a single line bridge, and for 3 cards it's a double line bridge. So how come when you do quad sli it's still only a double line bridge? Seems like for a pattern it should go to a triple line bridge, but I don't know all the technical specifications behind it so maybe that would only bog things down more.

because for 2 there's one bridge connecting them, three is 2 seperate bridges running in oipposite directions, only one card using both bridges, then for the fourth the middle 2 use bother bridges and the outside 2 use one. At least that's what i think, don't quote this or anything, just what makes sense to me.
