SLI video cards

Quick question;

If I have an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT card from Dell, can I buy an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT card from somewhere else and hook it up to run "SLI" with the other card??

For example, I can get the alpha dog version and it will work with the original one from Dell I have?

It will work, however, you say you got it from Dell, so I assume you are using a Dell computer, which would then require you to get a need power supply, because the one it is with will not be able to handle another video card, and also make sure that your motherboard has an extra PCIe slot to accommodate the second card

As far as card to card sli or crossfire compatibility, if it is the same chipset(in this case 8800gt) they can be used together. You can mix different manufacturer's versions of the same card, but you can't have different chipset cards running in sli. Like mentioned above, certain other criteria must be met to support it as it's more than just getting two of the right cards together.

thanks for the input, I actually had 2 8800gt 512mb cards running SLI in my dell, but one "went bad" the other day and crashed my computer until I figured out what was wrong.

Took the bad one out and I want to replace it to get my performance back.
