1) For SLI mode to work, does one have to have 2 exact same graphic cards?
2) Is any PCI-E graphic card compatible with SLI?
 
1. I'm 80% sure that is a yes.
2. I think all of them are (I may be wrong) but I am positive that the Nvidia 6800's can.
 
The answer to number 1 is a YES. They have to be exactly the same....

For question 2, I think they have to 'support' Sli, not just any old card. Although, I may be wrong...
 
Ok, I just found out that the only cards that can work in Sli mode are the 6600 and 6800, so, that's a no, not any old pci-e card can be used.

for nvidia sli yes. For other "sli-ish" things, no/

no. Effectively just the NV40/43s

Other "SLI-ish" things include the K8T890/Video-Array stuff
