i just got a geforce 8600GT 256 DDR3 and plugged in serious sam the second encounter (a rather old game, but loads of fun) and it was all lag. not even the loading screen played through smoothly. i'm kinda useless when it comes to trying to get a game to play smoothly, so.....any advice?

i've got an amd 5600+ dual core 2.8mhz with 4gig of 800mhz ram and a 500gig hitachi deskstar, run on a 500W psu.

should be able to work just fine, yet....lag lag lag.

please help.

hmmmm. well the recommended requirements are these...

they arent too high so it should run it... not sure why it doesnt. are you playing on highest? whats it like on low?

CPU
Recommended: Pentium 4 or Athlon XP
Recommended: 2.6 GHz
Recommended: 512 MB Ram
Recommended: Windows 2000/XP
Recommended: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with Pixel Shader support (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900+ / ATI Radeon 9500+ / Intel 915g+)

hmmm... have you updated the drivers? it could just be the game's reaction to the hardware itself. if you're running on high, try changing the settings to lower and see if that changes that.

ok, i updated the drivers to the latest version. tried running it again, still lags. so i turned the settings all the way down and still lags. is there any other info i can provide that would help identify the problem and how to fix it?

running an asus m2a-vm. and i tried Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and it was way better than serious sam, but still just a bit laggy. but turning down the settings on that one didn't help either.

ohh I have ever got problems like this before.as I can tell there are a few reasons you can consult:

1)Make sure you have installed the amd dual-core processor patch if you are using xp os ,or else your game speed is gonna be weird in many games.
2)check your cpu&gpu tempurature. My motherboard(msi k9n_neo_v3) got a big bug with tempurature detection so that my game experience is really lag just like you.In a couple weeks it really becomes the pain in the neck untill I update the bios.

ok...check your cpu tempurature in bios first and if it's low you dont need to update your bios.
amd dual-core patch install order:amd cpu driver-->2 dual-core patch by microsoft-->amd dual-core optimizer yeah I know it's a bit trouble.

i must be losing it, cause i can't find the microsoft version of the dual core patch. i can find plenty of different pages that talk about it but not the download itself. can you post the link?

sorry dude, notice my location.I just cant give you an English link so you gotta find it by yourself...
the install order posted by me is exactly.
go search for those 2 patches in microsoft official website.
