Slow Boot up

Hi all,

I'm trying to fix slow booting problems. I know, it'd be nice to have a 10 second boot up, but that's not what I'm going for. Vista is booting up ridiculously slow. First off, after the BIOS screes, I can count (slowly) to ten with a blank black screen before I get my Boot options menu [Windows Vista/Windows 7]. This is mildly annoying, but I can deal with it. If I select Vista though, it takes almost 40 seconds 'Loading', before I get the chance to sign in. Once I sign in, it works at the appropriate speed. The OS is fully updated. Any ideas?

Do you have all of the cores running on the boot?max memory too?

Do you have the boot setttings, so that your boot order has your HDD first on the list?

Yea :( Sadly, I do have all that correct. Just made sure of it.

Huh? What's correct?

You need to analyze your startup programs and eliminate the unwanted ones from starting when you boot the computer.

There is no wrong or right.

Right now I have 39 running processes. How many do you have?

It is right. As in, I am using all four cores, I am using all the memory, and it is booting off of the correct HDD, with it being in the top of the boot order. The thing is, the problem occurs BEFORE you even log in, so I'm not sure what programs I would be disabling.

Yes, you have to edit the configuration AFTER you log in, but once you change this, the NEXT TIME you log in, you will see the difference. Guaranteed.

Using the System Configuration Utility (msconfig) click on the Startup Tab as
stated in the tutorial.

You can safely uncheck any Startup Item with a Command listed in "Program Files" as long as it's not associated with your Antivirus Software.

Next, click the Services Tab. Check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft Services".

Again, uncheck any box that is not related to your A/V software.

Click OK, Apply, Restart.
