Slow computer even after tons of tools applied

Hi

I have a Dell Inspiron with a 1.73 Duo core and a gig of memory. When I got this computer initially it was super fast. Since then, it has slowed to a crawl and I find that it takes on average about 15 seconds to open a program. I have bought all types of programs to achieve better performance, but nothing seems to work. I scan frequently for virus and trojans. I have PC Illin which seems to work well. I have registry mechanic and spy bot. I have done defrags, scan disk and nothing has helpes. I also went to MSConfig and got rid of programs that were taking up memory.

So I am really out of things to try. I am almost ready to just reconfigure my laptop and start over. Any suggestions?

I will comment assuming you have zero viruses/trojans/spyware.

It seems like your only real options left are to defrag and run a scan for any errors...although I doubt that you have any. Past that, you said you went into msconfig...so I'm assuming you hit up your startup and services stuff as well.

I would recommend making sure you have anything you want to keep backed up and just reformat and reinstall your OS. Would probably save you tons of time and headaches. If your system is crawling after that, you know you have a problem and it can be addressed a lot easier.

Thanks

I figured that would be the only real step left. I did go in and get rid of unecessary startup programs. I will bite the bullet and reformat. Thanks for the advice.
