My computer has been very slow for quite a while so I'm finally going to try and fix it. I'm not that great with computers so you fine folks may have to explain some things to me, sorry:o. Here's my log file, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just by looking really through your log, I can tell you that you have a really slow start-up...

To fix this, download CCleaner:
  • Go to cleaner
  • Analize
  • Clean by clicking on Run Cleaner
  • Reboot your computer
This will clean your computer of useless files.

Now the start-ups:
  • Go to "tools">"Startups"
  • Remove those you don't want at start-up
  • Reboot and see the difference :P

You can also clean your registry:
  • Go to CCleaner
  • Do a registry scan
  • Fix the problems
  • Reboot your computer

When I find cases like this
1. I use any spyware/malware scanner, but they usually unable to remove the virus/spyware
2. Track with the scanner, which what is the virus/spyware/trojan file. Usually they inside temporary files folder
3. Remove the file with Avenger, the reboot the PC. Avenger would remove the intruder before it is loaded by Windows.

Work charm everytime!
 
Could you link me to this "avenger" and tell me which spyware/malware scanner you use?

I'm also really not sure which things I don't need at the startup.

in reference to a thing an admin told me, don't use avenger for every day things, he/she said that it was a very powerful tool used only as a last chance type thing
 
Your logfile appears clean, but it wouldn't hurt to run an Online scan to see if there's anything that's eluding HijackThis:

Go to Kaspersky Online Scanner and click Accept
When the updates are finished downloading, click Next>>Scan Settings
Under Scan using the following antivirus database:, select extended
Make sure the Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases options are selected as well. Click OK
Click My Computer and wait for the scan to finish
Click Save Report As. Under Save as type:, select Text file. Save this log to your Desktop and post a copy of it here.

Oh I thought I'd throw this in there too, does anybody actually use norton anti-virus? If I have the free zone alarm and scan my computer is it worth keeping norton anti-virus on my computer?

Zone Alarm is a firewall, and will not protect you from viruses. You need to use an antivirus such as Norton as well.

I'll take a look at your startup list tomorrow, in the mean time you can try a Bitdefender scan instead:

also use msconfig to take out everything in your startup except av and firewall I would recommend trying to uninstall norton and installing antivir to see how much norton is slowing you down, it is very well known that it slows systems to a crawl don;'t believe me?? read this

Firstly, Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > Add or Remove Programss.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
    It should have next icon next to it:

    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:

Both the BitDefender and Counterspy scans found nothing and my computer is still running as slow as ever. Any other ideas of what could be wrong? Thanks for everything, everyone.
