Hello all I'm new to this site and need a little help with my laptop.
I have noticed that the speed of my laptop i.e. how fast programs load, how fast it starts up etc. has been decreasing lately. I have a Dell Latitude D610. I got it from my father's company. It was previously used then reformatted and the a hand full of programs were installed. I have McAfee, Windows Defender, and Spybot installed for my protection. I ran updated and ran all three, and no threats were detected in any of them. The following is my hijack this logfile.

Here's a list of things i Made to Help Make your computer faster!

I Do NOT Recommend the Page File removal to Hardcore PC gamers!!, the rest will do you no harm!

Read Everything Carefully- Some stuff in here can be risky!.

I recommend you do this part only if you have a gig of ram or more... if you have less than that, you may mess up your Computer (Will not delete files, and cant mess it up permanently)- if you dont know how much ram you have, i recommend you dont try this at all...

First, click start, and Right-click My Computer, and select "properties".

After that... click the "Advanced" tab, after you do that- click "Settings" in the "Performance" Sub-Menu...

After that, click the "Advanced" Tab in the Sub-Menu of the "Performance Options" window. Select "Change" from the "Virtual Memory" Section.

After that, Select the main Hard drive, click "No Paging File", click the "Set" Button. NOTE!!: if your using Windows7/vista, these option will be blanked out unless you click the check box at the top allowing you to edit the settings manually.

you may get a pop up saying that you may not be noticed if getting to little mem bla bla bla... What it's saying is, if your screen goes black with just the mouse being visible, you'll have to force re-start, and have to change it back to the previous state. (How it was Before we started)

now, no Temporary files are stored in your hard drive- this means that the Random Access Memory in your Computer will do its job more often, rather than the Hard Drive doing it (RAM uses flash memory witch can retrieve, and send files faster than a hard drive), this should speed up every process in your computer if done correctly.

Next... -this will make your computer faster, yet it will make it vary style... i recommend you do this only if your computer's really slow- this doesn't have requirements on the hardware side..

fist... the same- Right click "My Computer", and hit "Properties".

this is where it changes... click the "Visual Effects" tab (it's the default Tab).

And select "Adjust for Best Performance", "Apply"... and your Done!...

This Speed's up your Computer be Limiting the Amount of Files the computer has to load for your Theme (Ex: the Close button on you windows will be replaced with no picture), and it also make for Better Special effects on programs by Eliminating the amount of special effects your Operating system uses By using your Graphics Card (Ex: Shadow Under the Mouse/Windows, using the Transparency Effect on on vista/windows7 Windows Etc.- these will not apply to the computer, making everything else faster.)...

Extra Tips:

Right Click on your Desktop and select "Properties" ("Personalize" for Vista/Win7)...

click the "Desktop" Tab (Or the Bottom Panel for Vista/Win7)

and Choose "None" in the Selection Window- this will remove your background, and make your computer faster by not loading the Large Image.

Make the star menu Pop Up faster:

This is only for extremely slow Computers... your start menu may Delay a little when pushing the "Start" Button, ill' show how to make it faster.

Right Click on your TaskBar, and select Properties...

Click the "Start Menu" tab, and click "Customize".

In the "General" tab, Select "Small icons", than make the Amount of Programs to show as "0", and click "Clear List".

After that, Click the "Advanced" Tab, and Un-check "List my recently opened Documents", than click "Clear List", Click "OK".

That's it!- this will make your start menu load faster by limiting the amount of programs and icons your start menu loads every time it pops up.

First- Push "Windows Key+R", than Type in " msconfig " (Without Quotes)
Once the windows Pop's up, click the "Start up" tab. than click all the unnecessary Programs you want to boot up... click apply.

This Next Step is risky, and is only Recommended for advanced Users... Click the "Services" tab, and Un-click ONLY the files you Recognize and don't need!; Example: DO NOT un-check the "explorer.exe" Service, as this is crucial for normal windows Behavior, something you can un-click is "Telephony"- if you dont need it...
