Slow days, Fast days

I am having a wierd problem with my laptop video card. It is a 8400 gs in an HP laptop. Sometimes, when I turn on my computer, my 3d games will be fast, and other times it will be slow. It seems to only change in between hibernations, but not on all of them. When it is slow, I can get 5-20 fps in Burnout Paradise but when it is fast, I get 25-40.

I have checked my power state (power saver, etc) and it is still slow on high performance. My laptop was purchased in December, but it was a display model since around September.

It is probably becuase you are Hibernating the laptop. If you are going to be gaming on it, it might be worth turning it off, rather than Hibernating.

When a computer is Hibernating all of the memory in the RAM is stored on the HDD and is passed back when it is rebooted... by playing games you can be using quite a bit of RAM, this is then saved to the HDD when the computer goes into Hibernation and is passed back when you boot it agian...therefore giving you lower performance levels...

I think thats right... correct me if im wrong.

thats not the problem (but thanks for the tip)

Sometimes when I hibernate, it will come back on and be fast. Other times, it will be slow.
